Hay Friend!
Have you ever wondered how God wants to use you?
Not just in a big, dramatic, stage kind of way — but in your real, everyday life?
Here is something I want you to really sit with:
You are both a physical and a spiritual being.
You are connected to God, the Vine, and you are connected to people here on Earth. And while we are not called to do everything or solve every human problem (that’s God’s job), we are called to live and thrive in community and do our part in the Body of Christ.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10
One incredible way to understand your role is to get clear about how God formed you physically and spiritually.
Physical Gifts vs. Spiritual Gifts
God gave you physical gifts — things like organizing, communicating, teaching, building, designing, leading, writing, encouraging, planning, hosting, creating, relating, and more. These are gifts you use in the physical world — at work, at home, in your business, in your community.
But He also gave you spiritual gifts — gifts that minister directly to the heart and soul of another person. Gifts like:
- Prayer
- Mercy
- Shepherding
- Encouragement
- Giving
- Teaching
- Discernment
- Faith
- Service
For some people, these gifts overlap in their career or business. For others, spiritual gifts may show up more in church, ministry, friendships, or certain seasons of life.
Neither is more important. Both matter. Both are from God.
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.” — 1 Corinthians 12:4
When you understand your gifts, you stop trying to be everything for everyone and start being who God actually created you to be.
A Quick Personal Story
Recently, I had the opportunity to pray for someone who was going through a really painful situation. I stood there listening to her story, and it brought me to tears. But at the same time, I felt so much joy just knowing I could connect her heart back to the Father and trust Him with the rest of her story.
For a long time, I didn’t realize this was a spiritual gift. I just thought I was someone who loved people and prayed for them.
But after taking a spiritual gifts assessment and talking through it in my Thrive group, it was confirmed:
One of my top spiritual gifts is intercessory prayer — standing in the gap for others.
And suddenly, my whole life made sense.
There is something so powerful about confirmation.
It’s where we stop comparing.
Stop striving.
Stop trying to be someone else.
And just start walking in who God created us to be.
5 Ways To Know How God Meets People Through You
If you’re not sure what your gifts are yet, here are five ways to start paying attention.
1. Look at Who You Are Drawn To Help
Who do you naturally feel compassion for?
Who do you find yourself wanting to help, encourage, pray for, teach, or guide?
That pull is not random.
“God has put eternity in the human heart.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11
2. Notice What People Ask You For Help With
People will often recognize your gifts before you do.
Do people ask you for:
- Advice?
- Prayer?
- Organization?
- Encouragement?
- Leadership?
- Help solving problems?
- Comfort when they’re hurting?
Pay attention to the pattern.
3. Look at Where You Already Show Up
Where are you already serving without being asked?
At home?
At church?
At work?
With friends?
Online?
In your community?
Many times, your assignment is already in your life.
4. Ask Yourself: What Breaks My Heart?
What problem, pain, or situation in the world deeply moves you?
That often points directly to where God wants to use you.
“The Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor… to bind up the brokenhearted.” — Isaiah 61:1
5. Pray and Ask God Directly
This might sound simple, but it’s powerful.
Ask:
“God, how do You want to love people through me?”
And then listen.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find.” — Matthew 7:7
Reflection Questions For You
Take a few quiet minutes and journal these:
- Who am I naturally drawn to help?
- What do people ask me for help with?
- Where do I find myself showing up for others the most?
- What change or miracle would I love to see on this Earth?
- How do I think God wants to use me?
Write it down.
Pray over it.
Pay attention to patterns.
A Loving Reminder About Boundaries
This part is important.
You are not called to help everyone.
You are not called to fix everyone.
You are not called to carry everyone.
That’s God’s job.
You are called to do your part, in your lane, with your gifts, with His strength.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” — 1 Peter 4:10
Serving with your gifts should feel life-giving, not constantly draining.
That’s why clarity and boundaries create a joyful journey, not a burnt-out one.
